All The Right Reasons To Love Autumn Strawberries

The beginning of September marks the second period of abundance of Quebec strawberries. Surprising but very true, autumn strawberries now represent 54% of the annual production of strawberries in Quebec! After the summer harvests, the belated strawberries take place in the baskets.

Here is why we love these famous autumn strawberries so much:

1.    It makes it possible to stock up
Whilst in June we rush to the first strawberries to stuff one's face, the later strawberries allow us to stock up for the months ahead that often lack a broader variety of fresh fruits. When comes back to school time, it is our last chance for canning, cooking into jam ou freezing the last strawberries of the season.

2.    It extends the summer
With more than 300 hectares of autumn strawberries fields, Quebec growers can harvest berries until the first freezes of October, which means 90 days later than the last summer strawberries!

We take advantage of this extension to taste: Aromas • Until mid-October
Of a dark red and of good size, the Aromas is a rather firm variety with a taste less sweet.

3.    It makes our people work
The "Association des producteurs de fraises et de framboises du Québec" gathers nearly 500 companies that employ over 11,000 people in Quebec. Buying local strawberries to the very end of the harvest period is a great boost to the province's economy!

4.    It is just as delicious
Biting into a juicy and sweet big red strawberry, is there a better feeling? You can now relive this satisfying moment with autumn strawberries that have nothing to envy to those of summer.

Discover one of the most popular varieties of all: Seascape • Until mid-October
Bright red and good-sized, this very sweet strawberry constitutes more than 90% of the autumn harvest of ours producers. Savor it as soon as you pick it, with a chocolate fondue or conserve it for the cold season!.

5.    It is nutritious
The varieties of autumn strawberries have the particularity of being insensitive to the decrease in light at this time of year, unlike us mere humans! Fortunately, eight strawberries contain as much vitamin C as an orange. Face the shorter days by daily consuming good local strawberries, rich in vitamins and minerals.
