June 12: A first edition to celebrate buying Quebec products

News

June 12, 2025 marks the launch of the very first edition of the June 12: I Buy a Quebec Product initiative, a day dedicated to promoting and celebrating local purchasing across Quebec.
Led by Aliments du Québec and Les Produits du Québec, in partnership with the Government of Quebec—including the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ) and the Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Energy (MEIE)—this initiative aims to mobilize citizens and businesses around a simple yet meaningful action: choosing products from here.

Through this day, Quebecers are invited to take a concrete step to support the local economy, encourage local businesses, and contribute to the vitality of our regions. Whether at the grocery store, in restaurants, or in retail shops, every local purchase makes a difference.

To help identify products, consumers are encouraged to look for recognized logos:
🟡 For everything edible: the yellow Aliments du Québec logos
🔵 For everything else: the blue house logos of Les Produits du Québec

This first edition is intended to be the starting point of a unifying movement, set to grow year after year.

“Choosing local products is the best way to support our farmers, fishers, processors, and the economy across all our regions. On June 12, I invite everyone to look for Quebec products and fill their baskets with local foods. You’ll enjoy flavors that showcase our territory while helping strengthen our food autonomy. Together, let’s take on the challenge!”

André Lamontagne, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Minister responsible for the Centre-du-Québec region

“Buying local means bringing our regional economy to life by prioritizing businesses, retailers, and know-how from here. I encourage Quebecers to fully take advantage of this day to discover or rediscover products and foods that make our regions proud. And above all, I invite them to continue this great movement throughout the year!”

Christopher Skeete, Minister Delegate for the Economy, Minister Responsible for the Fight Against Racism and Minister responsible for the Laval region

“Take part in large numbers in this initiative in support of buying local. June 12 is not just a date; it is a meaningful day, an opportunity to discover the richness of foods and products rooted in Quebec expertise. As a proud promoter of local purchasing, Aliments du Québec invites itself to your table and encourages you to replace a few items in your basket with local products clearly identified by our yellow logos—a simple and concrete gesture to support our food autonomy and Quebec’s economic vitality. Together, let’s make this day a unifying moment in support of our producers, our businesses, and what brings us together!”

Isabelle Roy, Executive Director of Aliments du Québec

“On June 12, let’s celebrate products from here. This day marks a wave of solidarity in support of buying local, but also a call to proudly show our Quebec identity. Set to return every year, this day will become a symbol of renewed commitment, starting with a simple action: purchasing a local product. We are proud to launch, in collaboration with Aliments du Québec, a unifying movement to make this gesture a shared source of pride and a lasting habit. As trusted references for consumers, our two organizations are committed not only to guiding and equipping the public, but also to making local purchasing clearer and more essential than ever.”
