Les Produits du Québec and Aliments du Québec invite Quebecers to take a collective and concrete action in support of the local economy

MONTREAL, June 12, 2026 – The Le 12 juin, j'achète un produit québécois Day is back for a second edition. Last year, the movement brought together a large number of Quebecers, including many elected officials and public figures. Les Produits du Québec and Aliments du Québec, with the support of Deputy Minister for the Economy and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Daniel Bernard, and Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Donald Martel, once again invite Quebecers to purchase a local product, share it on social media and encourage two other people to do the same. A simple, viral and unifying initiative that turns buying local into a visible collective action.

A movement built to last

Launched in 2025 and inspired by the initiative Le 12 août, j'achète un livre québécois, Le 12 juin, j'achète un produit québécois Day is part of a long-term effort. The objective is clear: to make June 12 an annual fixture on Quebecers’ calendars—a day that, through repetition and consistency, transforms a one-time action into a lasting habit.

“Recent economic challenges have shown us just how fragile our industrial fabric can be and how much it deserves our collective commitment. Every time a consumer chooses a Quebec-made product, they take concrete action to protect jobs, support a local business and strengthen their region’s economy. On June 12, I invite everyone to make this habit a source of pride—and to keep it going for the other 364 days of the year.”

– Daniel Bernard, Deputy Minister for the Economy and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises

“Choosing a Quebec food product is much more than a purchasing decision; it is a recognition of the work of our farmers, fishers, aquaculturists and food processors. Buying local strengthens our collective ability to feed Quebec and contributes to our food autonomy. Together, let’s make this choice a habit and a shared source of pride. Le 12 juin, j'achète un produit québécois!

– Donald Martel, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food

A simple and viral initiative

All Quebec-made products are being celebrated, both food and non-food. The two organizations provide consumers with reliable tools to easily identify local products. Businesses and local retailers are also encouraged to show their support, whether through in-store displays, special promotions or posts on their social media platforms. Every action counts.

“Local products are more than just items on a shelf: they represent jobs, families and communities that make Quebec what it is. Choosing them means recognizing their value and helping ensure that this expertise continues to thrive here. On June 12, we invite Quebecers to make this choice consciously and collectively so that it becomes second nature. Supporting our businesses and communities starts with what we put in our shopping carts.”

– Elfi Morin, Executive Director of Les Produits du Québec

“For 30 years, at Aliments du Québec, we have seen how committed Quebec consumers are to choosing local foods when they can easily identify them through clear and reliable markers, such as the certification logos of Aliments du Québec. June 12 is a wonderful opportunity to remind ourselves that every local purchase helps support our producers, fishers, food processors and the expertise that brings us together. Choosing a local food product is a simple, accessible and meaningful action that benefits all of Quebec.”

– Isabelle Roy, Executive Director of Aliments du Québec
